BLIND SELF TAPPING INSERTS

Self-tapping threaded inserts are a useful way to achieve a strong, permanent metric thread in soft materials such as fibreglass, wood, plastic or composites.

The external thread will self-cut into a pre-prepared hole in a similar way a wood screw does. Once fully inserted it provides you with a metric thread where this would have otherwise been difficult to achieve.

Our recommendation is to use blind self-tapping inserts in applications where any fluid ingression along the internal thread could be an issue.

The blind version of these inserts is similar in shape to a cup. This means they could be used outside exposed to the elements, for example in the roof of a boat, without the need to seal the internal thread.

The head of the insert is shaped to sit fully flush once correctly inserted in order that it blends in with the existing area. Below the head is a recess to provide a space for sealant to squeeze into when a watertight fit is required.

We stock a range of sizes from M2 through to M20 in marine grade stainless steel 316.
